Francisco Verdu, a pilgrim who walked the last 100 km of the Cammino de Santiago with his 10-year-old son, shared with us his eight-day experience along cammino, and we will be sharing it with you here on our Jospers blog.
“It was the summer 2010 and I finally felt ready to participate in this journey. I had taken, of course, all the necessary precautions: light weight gear, short daily walks with my son, and my wife and my other kids were nearby, just in case [they were staying in a rural house near Santiago de Compostela]. I thought that was the best way to do it.
DAY 1 : SARRIA-FERREIROS
From Melide, my wife drove my son and I to Sarria, where we started our journey. We were exactly 108 km from Santiago. Due to my physical condition [I had an accident in which I crushed a vertebra] and with my son being only 10-years-old, we walked between 10 to 15 km per day, less than the average pilgrims do - they usually walk anywhere from 20 to 30 km a day. We started walking early in the morning, in order to avoid the heat from the midday sun.
